The Burton Story In June of 2007 we contacted Maple Hill builders, among others, in order to get an initial bid on a home we wanted built in Lake Leelanau. We were very pleased with the bid that Steve and Drew made us because of it's completeness, easy to understand breakdown, and options included. We felt that there would be no surprises in prices and materials using their company and that turned out to be true. The project began in July and was completed by the end of December. I had worked on the design with the help of Robert Johnson, LLC, and had a good grasp of materials I wanted used, and the Schaubs were very compliant with my desires and helped me to get the look and layout that I wanted. The subs they used were experienced and professional and they worked closely with us to achieve our wants as well as our needs. There are always times when the desired outcome is not what is on the drawing, and whenever that happened Steve and Drew always looked at it from my point of view and never lost their composure. For example, our drawings happened to show specs for carpeted stairs and I wanted wooden stairs. So even though the base steps were already installed, they didn't try to talk me out of my desire, they came up with a good plan for maple risers and the stairs turned out to be, in my opinion, really lovely and easy to clean as well. I was able to work with them and feel included as a part of the team in material and finish choices, and I was always pleased and impressed with the caliber of the work and the good advice I was given in regard to finishes, door and window choices and so on.  Cozy fireplace in living area By the middle of December our beautiful home was finished and we were able to spend Christmas vacation in our new house. But the best results can go astray and in January we had a problem in the thermostat of our new furnace that literally baked our house, while we were not yet living there to realize what was happening. By the time it was discovered about $30,000.00+ worth of damage had been done. Again, Steve and Drew and their subs stepped up to the plate and made it right. There was no arguing over the claim or any kind of denial, they got in there and fixed it as good as new (which it still was). This included replacing the hardwood floor, countertops throughout the house, cracked tiles, doors, patching drywall, moving and resetting cupboards and cabinets, and probably more repairs as well. Today you would never know it had happened. I will always be happy to share my experience with Maple Hill Builders because it was exciting and enjoyable, and we ended up with the home of our dreams. This was a fun and practical remodel where we were able to create and build out new uses for the floor space, and create great areas for the family to keep their belongings and day-to-day items organized.Great ideas for use of space include custom bench seats with storage underneath, coat pegs built into the wall, Cherry steps with custom tile risers and custom tiled sink top. Also installed ceiling beams in the recreation room to break up the tall ceilings. Outside, an old rotten deck was removed and in its place we built a covered porch and installed stone piers with an exposed aggregate floor. All very low maintenance exterior remodel improvements. We were also able to utilize our electronic faxing and email platform to keep our customer, who lives in Kansas, current and up-to-date on our progress. Michigan Uniform Energy Code The new Michigan Uniform Energy Code was signed in law on October 24, 2008 by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm. The new code replaced the 1995 code. Maple Hill Builders has adapted to the Michigan Uniform Energy Code changes, framing homes to new and updated code standards, installing energy certified windows, doors and insulation products.
